Applying from abroad

Key Austrian embassies & consulates

If you live outside Austria, your declaration under § 58c is normally submitted through the Austrian embassy or consulate general responsible for your place of residence. The representation receives the declaration and supporting documents and forwards the case to the competent authority in Austria.

Find the competent Austrian representation

The Austrian Foreign Ministry maintains the authoritative worldwide directory of Austrian embassies, consulates general and other representations. Use it to identify the office responsible for your country and consular district.

Important: Do not assume that the nearest Austrian office is the competent one. Consular districts matter, particularly in large countries such as the United States. Appointment rules and document-submission procedures can also differ between representations.
